I don't use Napster so I can't speak definitively, but Napster and other subscription download sites not iTunes, that's pay-per-song mean that you don't actually own the songs you download from their service. The terms of service you agreed to when you signed up for their service say that you agree to only play the songs you download in the Napster player ONLY.

Also you can only transfer the songs to portable music players that have licensing agreements with Napster like for instance, the one they advertise on Napster. If you stop paying your subscription fees to Napster, you will lose the ability to play those songs in the Napster player too. The Napster player checks in with napster. You have to log on periodically so you can link up again. It's crap. I've been on hold for 10 minutes now just to cancel the stupid thing because they won't let you cancel online if you have a subscription.

I absolutely loved napster when it was illegal. Now that it's turned into nothing but a headache, I'll never use it again. Be warned: wherever you use the napster client, that is where you can play your music. Not that I am condoning this action, but there is a way to port all your music from Napster and play it anywhere. Not that I would ever recommend you get Fair4Use to do such a heinous act. Nor do I condone or endorse the use of your music to be played anywhere you want.
